Friends on a camping trip in Virginia encourage everyone to learn CPR after saving a life

A group of friends were out camping at Smith Mountain Lake in Virginia when one of them became dangerously dehydrated. That one person decided to take a nap, and an hour and a half later was found to be unresponsive. With the help of the 911 dispatcher, the group of friends were able to perform CPR since it would take 20 to 30 minutes for rescue crews to get to their location.

The group of friends new how important it is to know CPR. Now, after this experience, it is more important than ever to get certified since you will never know when you will need it. Getting certified in CPR should be for EVERYONE, not just for healthcare workers. If you are thrust into this situation, you have no idea how long it will take for first responders to get onto the scene. It could be 2 to 3 minutes or it could 30 minutes.

So everyone, even if you are not a healthcare worker, should get certified in the Basic Life Support (BLS) course. It is only $59.95 to complete the lessons on line, and $65 to come into Hershman Medical Center to do your in-person skills session and get your card. Also, the first 20 people to sign up for a BLS course will receive a free Dr J CPR USA t-shirt featuring Captain CPR.

If you have any questions, feel free to reach out. As always, I am always here to help.
